Hello guys, after Anet ET4 has been released, some reflected that they couldn't get started with leveling. So here goes our topic of this article - How to auto-level ET4 scientifically and methodically - a detailed tutorial to perish your trouble in leveling.
This tutorial is divided into two parts: the checking work(Step I, II) + leveling(Step III).
The nozzle and leveling sensor are always the key to ensure if the leveling is of success. You should check either and, if it still doesn't work, you should check them both.
But pay attention! This tutorial is only suitable for the ET4 version with the FILMY leveling sensor I use below.
- Step One: Clean the Nozzle
At first, before we start the leveling, it's necessary to check out the nozzle.
Cuz if you have used the nozzle before, the residual filament on the nozzle will affect the accuracy of leveling.
Check if there are residues on the nozzle
So what we gonna do? Let's get started.
Click [Prepare - Preheat] and wait for the nozzle to reach the target temperature - 200 degrees. And when you notice that the filament starts to melt down, you should extract all the rest filament from the extruder otherwise the nozzle would keep spitting filament.

After that, we wipe the nozzle with the tissue. But you must be so careful that all the residuals can be wiped away.

- Step Two：Check Out the Leveling Sensor
The often failed leveling may be also caused by a broken leveling sensor.
The leveling sensor
To check whether it has malfunction may look a little bit technical, but it's easy to operate. Just follow the step.
Prepare a multi-function multimeter, turn the knob to this unit "Ω"(resistance). And we will measure its circuit by touching the metal plug of the leveling sensor with red- and black- color test leads.
Adjust the knob on the multimeter.
Use the multimeter to measure the resistence of leveling sensor
How we identify this sensor can work well? Take a thin stick to press the copper piece with force to trigger the sensor to see that if the multimeter makes a sharp ring when it is triggered, the sensor has good performance, while the multimeter will not ring if not triggered.
Check whether the leveling sensor works well
The all above is the checking work!
- Step Three: Leveling
Let's get back to the base of leveling operation - LCD screen. Click [Prepare - Preheat] to make sure that nozzle temperature is below 50°C before leveling otherwise it will burn out the sensor.

Now we install the leveling sensor. But attention please, you have to install softly to avoid triggering the sensor. Now we don't have to have the nozzle make an intimate contact with the sensor yet.
Install the leveling sensor on the nozzle
Then click on [Level - Auto - OK]. Normally, before the extruder starts leveling, it will first move to the top to complete the homing work and get back to the bottom to move right.
When the extruder starts to touch the platform, the leveling begins. It may take a couple of minutes because it has to measure 25 points to ensure smoothness. Yeah, our pursuit of precision is always the key to keep our product excellent.
The extruder completed the leveling work
After the extruder stops moving, the leveling completes. Just click [Ok] and check the 9 parameters on the screen. If the error range from the maximum to minimum value falls within ±0.5. The leveling is of success.
